Recovering after C-Section Surgery

The overwhelming feeling of holding your newborn baby after nine months of waiting is inexplicable. After a lot of anticipation, the baby is your own mini you, but this privilege comes with a tradeoff of body weakness, especially if you went through a C-section delivery. The damage to your body by childbirth usually takes a few months to heal and it may take longer in the case of C-section. Here are a few tips to recover a C-section delivery soon.

1. Take utmost care of your body

A C-section is major surgery and like every other major surgery, it requires complete rest to get healed quickly and completely. Take care of your body as a delicate baby, don’t lift anything heavy, hold your stomach when you cough or sneeze to avoid any damage to the stitches, walk slowly on stairs, and avoid vigorous physical activities. Your body has gone through a sever operation and it needs to be treated with extra care. Moreover, taking care doesn’t limit only to physical health, take care of your emotions too and talk to your spouse, friend, or relative whenever you feel sad or depressed.

2. Take proper rest

A C-section needs up to 6 weeks of complete rest to heal, so it’s suggested to keep a hold on motherhood urges to hold and play with your kid, while you need complete rest on the first place. Take the help of your friends and relatives with household chores and rest as much as possible.

3. Eat a healthy diet

It’s needless to say how important is proper and good nutrition for recovery from childbirth damages, especially C-section. Heavy intake of iron-rich food products is suggested for the better health of the baby and the fast recovery of the mother.

4. Take doctor’s help in relieving your pain

In case of intense and severe pain, especially while breastfeeding, contact a doctor immediately and get the best suggestions for relieving your pain. After seeing your condition, the doctor may either recommend you a painkiller or suggest you take over-the-counter pain medicine.

When to seek help?

Some soreness in the incision, discharge or bleeding till six weeks of C-section is considered normal and has been experienced by many women. But, anything exceeding the limit along with the symptoms of pain around the site, bad-smelling vaginal discharge, fever more than 100.4 °F, redness and swelling in legs, heavy vaginal bleeding, chest pain, breast pain, and difficulty in breathing suggest an immediate doctor’s appointment.

Moreover, don’t compare your C-section with any of your other friends or a relative, all women are different and heal differently. Happy motherhood!!
