Safer sex reduces the risk of STDs (sexually transmitted infections)

Safer sex reduces the risk of STDs (sexually transmitted infections)

Sex is an intimate relationship between two individuals. Even though you know your partner and trust them, it is important to practice safe sex.

Safe sex is about protecting yourself and your partner from any sexually transmitted infections.

Use protection

STDs are bacteria or infections that are transmitted from one person to another through sexual activities. It could be vaginal, anal or oral sex. It can also pass through skin-to-skin contact. There are a lot of ways through which you can enjoy your sex life without having to go through any trouble. One of the common and highly recommended methods is the use of barriers such as condoms or dental dams. Infection always spreads through fluid contact; barriers avoid the exchange of infected body fluids and keep you safe.

Frequent STDs check-ups

It is essential to get tested for STDs on a regular basis, even if you use barriers every time you have sex. STDs usually do not have any apparent symptoms. It is essential to keep yourself safe and know if you have any infections.

Checkups also help you to detect the infection as early as possible. This way you can take correct treatment before it gets worse.

There are safer options too

There are many ways to enjoy risk-free sexual pleasure. You don’t have to have sex to be intimate with someone. Masturbation and dry humping are some of the ways to do that.

Low-risk activities like dry humping can also lead to infection, so, it is always advisable to use condoms.

For HIV, oral sex is a safer option than vaginal or anal sex. On the other hand, infections like syphilis, hepatitis B, herpes, gonorrhoea, etc. can be quickly passed through oral sex. It can infect your lips, mouth or even throat.

If you are already infected

If you are already infected and you are aware of it, you must avoid unprotected sex. Always use a condom while getting involved in any sexual activity. Seek medical help, as many STDs are curable these days. Avoid sex if you have swelling or irritation in your vagina/penis.

Most importantly, you need to be honest with your partner. He/she deserves to know whether you are entirely physically fit or not, and this includes your sexual health as well.  This way you and your partner can plan together for safer sex options
