The Right Age to Plan a Pregnancy

The Right Age to Plan a Pregnancy

When it comes to planning a pregnancy not one statement fits all. Ideally, you are physically fit to conceive as soon as you start the menstruation cycle yet being mentally, financially, and emotionally fit are other important aspects. A decade ago in a typical Indian society getting pregnant after a few months of marriage used to be as non brainer as taking out blankets in winters but now the majority of women wait until they are completely ready for a kid. However, your 20s’ are the best years to plan a pregnancy keeping your financial and relationship stability in consideration along with biological factors but not every woman’s body is the same neither are life circumstances.

So here are some peek-a-boos that can help you in planning your pregnancy.

1. Age factor

Unfortunately the sad truth is, women are not fertile forever. However, you are most fertile during your teenage years but teenage moms are still in their growing up phase in terms of emotional and financial stability so it’s not highly recommended. The best time frame to conceive a child keeping everything in mind is 24-32. There are evidences that a female’s

fertility starts decreasing after 32 and decreases even rapidly after 37.

Though it’s possible to get pregnant as long as you are menstruating, as the age increases, chances keep decreasing. So it’s recommended to take age in consideration too while making other things align in place for family planning.

2. The risk of child born with chromosomal disorder increases with the increasing age

While the case of having a child born with Down syndrome is 1 in 525 among the women in their 20s’, women in their 40s’ have it 1 in 65. Thus risk of giving birth to an unhealthy child also increases as you are left with less fertile eggs in your ovaries. Even if you conceive in your thirties you can be more prone to complications like stillbirth and other disorders. However, in research it shows that kids of 30s’ moms perform better in cognitive tests than 20s’ moms because in 30s’ women are more educated and financially capable of giving more care to their children.

Altogether, there is no right and wrong age when it comes to planning a pregnancy, because maybe when you are physically fit you might not be in a stable relationship or maybe when you are stable you are not in a good biological state. Thus, you can either go for freezing your eggs in fertile years or if lucky everything will align in a perfect manner. Don’t stress over the right age, focus on the right situation keeping the age factor in consideration.
